Día de Descanso

Today is our first day of rest since arriving on Monday. Even though we don't have an class obligations today, meal times are still the same, so I, along with a couple classmates, rose just before 7am to get some breakfast in the comedor. Getting up before 7am every morning hasn't been as difficult for me as I anticipated. Maybe its because I got up early for most of the summer, but its definitely good to get up and not feel lethargic and then be tired by 10:30/11:00 pm. Also, the sun sets at 6pm here, so the early rising and setting of the sun works in our favor.

After breakfast, five of us took a hike down the Rio Java trail at the station. And right at the beginning of the hike we saw toucans!

We also went on a frog hunt last night - they were very noisy but not easy to find.

And I took a video of some cutter ants on the forest floor for your viewing pleasure:

This afternoon I have some work to do for class (writing survey questions, lab report, read articles), hope to get more pictures posted online - I'll be sure to post a link, read for pleasure (started the Brothers Karamazov yesterday) and go to mass in town with a couple others. Then we're right back into the chaos tomorrow morning!

  1. Loving the posts... It hadn't occured to me that the faucet letters would be opposite. I'm glad you started Brothers K; I look forward to hearing what you think. The healthcare post made me think of Mountains Beyond Mountains... which I still have to finish. I hope your day of rest was good and that you're ready for Monday. Thinking of you and praying for you this week, my friend.

  2. Thanks so much for the frequent blogs. We look forward to them. Loved hearing about how the clinics are set up and run. Sounds efficient and provides care to everyone in need. How is the food? Do the snake boots fit? keep taking those photos. We love the visuals and desciptions. Am reading the Generation Me book. When done will start Brothers Karamozov so we can read it together.
Love you and miss you, Mom
